With
all our custom built fireplace mantel and surrounds, we hand pick
all the lumber we use. Frequently, we go through ten boards to get
one good one. We check for the looks of the board, how straight it
is, and look for the best possible color match. We use solid lumber
in our construction. No plywood is used in the mantel or the
surround.
In order for lumber to remain
straight and not bow or warp, it should be dried to a specific
percentage of humidity for each individual state across the country.
We have found that even drying to correct moisture levels still does
not prevent all lumber from warping.
We pick your lumber and begin to
assemble your mantel within 2 days to prevent chances of warping. We
cannot guarantee that all lumber will remain stable, but we go to
all lengths possible to avoid warping.
As soon as we have your mantel
and/or surround built, it is immediately stained and finished inside
and out, again, to prevent warping.
We mount your mantel in your home
with very little mess, and we clean up when we are done, leaving you
just the enjoyment of your new mantel.
We have a line of standard mantels
and surrounds to choose from, or we will custom design for you. We
will also work with you to fit the space allowed in your house.
Whether
you would like a mantel only, or a mantel and surround (legs &
crosspiece), we will build to your needs. You may choose from a
variety of standard models that we have displayed, or we will custom
build to your specs. We have also taken basic models and made
alterations, such as carvings, end blocks, bookcases on top and at
the sides, mirrors above, or an idea that you come up with. We take
the time to sit with you and design, let you design, or we can
design any alterations or custom work, and submit it for your
approval. We take pride in our work, and pass the craftsmanship on
to you to put in your home.
We believe that you will find the
work of Chadima Furniture & Restoration of the highest quality.
